The Republic of Moldova is located in southeastern Europe, bordered on the west by Romania and on all other sides by Ukraine.

Evidence suggests grapes of many varieties were growing in Moldova some 6-25 million years ago.  In more recent history, both World Wars did considerable damage to Moldovan vineyards.  It was while under Soviet rule that vineyards were re-planted and Moldova today continues to grow its wine industry.  They are among the top 10 countries in the world exporting wine.  An area of specialization for many of these wineries is still wines, sparkling wines and spirits.
