France is the world’s top exporter of wine. Commercial wine production occurs in almost every region of this country. Vineyards and wineries range from the well-known and grand chateaux to tiny family affairs. If there is one thing that most French wines have in common, it is that most styles have developed as wines meant to accompnay food, be it a quick baguette, a simple bistro meal or full fledged multi-course menu.  France has been the most influential country in the wine world, being the original source for many of the more well-known grape varieties.
